Description

Image taken in Kruger National Park.

Travelling to Africa was a dream that Tamara and I did not expect to fulfil so soon.
We had nothing planned for the University Summer break, a month had passed and we felt the itch to to overseas again.
Where should we go? Japan? North India? a short trip to Indonesia? Africa... "we need more time to plan for Africa, its so big and far away"
It was clear that we needed more time to plan all of our destinations, no way we were going to be able to plan a 6 week holiday, get vaccinations, and Visas within 2 weeks...
Well we were wrong, on the 5 th of Jan we started looking for a company that could do all the planning work for us, Africa Travel Co had very attractive and large variety of trip types.
We choose 32 days 'Journey to the Cape, Jo'burg to Cape Town travelling in a large custom off road truck, fitted with water, camping equipment, and three crew.

Our first destination was Kruger national park, the drive to Hazyview was our first sight of the African continent, we saw villages towns and African shantytowns for the first time, including government built housing developments. Our guides spoke to us about corruption and the problems that South Africa is facing today.
We drove past incredibly large open coal mines, where the soil did not bear fruit. Further, never ending acres of fertile crops stretched to the horizon, this is the food supply to Johannesburg a city of 4.5 million people in the greater metro area.

The high density farms whittled down, and the incredible green landscapes started to unfold.

Gorgeous photograph. The monochrome fits this zebra-portrait perfectly.
